Our History

The National Chrysanthemum Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1954. It has members living in nearly all states in the USA and many foreign countries. The Society’s members include chrysanthemum specialists, horticulturists, nurserymen, as well as garden clubs, botanical gardens, universities, and libraries. NCS is primarily for the amateur gardener who enjoys growing chrysanthemums, but also welcomes commercial growers.

Our Accomplishments

The National Chrysanthemum Society developed a classification system for chrysanthemums.  Classification is necessary because of the many diverse bloom forms and their suitability to different growing habits.  Chrysanthemums are classified to aid in identifying the cultivars for purchase, use, and exhibition.  Click on the following link for a description of each classification

The National Chrysanthemum society was originally formed in 1949 and was incorporated in 1954 as 501(c) (3) and is broken down into 3 divisions, Officers, Board of Director as well as series of committees.
